In the 5th minute of the match Sam Coe shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jeff Barkley showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Robert Branch got free with Paul Barat in the 11th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Max Campbell in the 13th minute of play forced Hexham AFC's goalkeeper Paul Barat to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Hexham AFC getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Sam Norton hit a great ball. Dion Burnell hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. 18 minutes into the match, Max Campbell dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Paul Barat , 1-0. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bob Gallacher in the 22nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jeff Barkley prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Derek Dingle took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 29th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Jeff Barkley . Wimborne's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. When Robert Branch came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the Wimborne fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Robert Branch couldn't finish the play. Bob Gallacher received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Jeff Barkley tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 40th minute, Johnnie Davison hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Max Campbell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 42nd minute. Harry McGuigan charged in rather forcefully in the 46th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The supporters of Hexham AFC booed when Wimborne was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 48 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sonny Cooke didn't get a good kick on the ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Bob Gallacher made a kick off. Harry McGuigan was shown his second yellow card after 64 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. William Cooper's late challenge caught a Hexham AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. William Cooper helped the player get up and apologised. After 69 played minutes Wimborne got a freekick which was hit by William Cooper. In the 73rd minute, Johnnie Davison got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Paul Barat made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Robert Branch in the 80th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Robert Branch in the 82nd minute of play forced Hexham AFC's goalkeeper Paul Barat to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Hexham AFC defense, Max Campbell kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Paul Barat . The Hexham AFC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Paul Barat should have stopped the shot. Paul Barat showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Max Campbell, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute. Wimborne were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Hexham AFC for a fine match.
