An unexpectedly hard shot by Adam Brooks in the 7th minute of play forced Oakham's goalkeeper Jay Collier to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Phil Colley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Phil Colley got free with Jay Collier in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 13 played minutes Oakham got a freekick which was hit by Micheal Markham . Phil Colley s short, quick shot in the 15thth minute got Jay Collier to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Travis Gough struck a weak shot in the 24th minute. Cody Morgan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Oakham. Phil Colley sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Oakham's Jay Collier played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adam Brooks in the 29th minute of play. After having played for 34 minutes, Adam Brooks managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. The supporters of Lincoln booed when Oakham was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rick Corby didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 37th minute, Geoff Cousens sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Oakham's Jay Collier didn't even have to move. Cody Morgan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Travis Gough in the 43rd minute of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Travis Gough was the one to do the kick off. After 51 minutes, Micheal Markham mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Oakham and the Lincoln players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Oakham's Micheal Markham got a free kick in the 51st minute. A hard shot by Martyn Barker from long distance, 55 minutes into the match, got Cody Morgan 's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Adam Brooks recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 56th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Lincoln's Josh Tetley got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 67th minute, Phil Colley ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jay Collier was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Pete Blake 's late challenge caught a Lincoln's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Pete Blake helped the player get up and apologised. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 75th minute of the game. One of Oakham:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Lincoln:s goal. Geoff Cousens shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Martyn Barker hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. Jay Collier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Adam Brooks in the 82nd minute of play. Jay Collier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Craig Maunder in the 89th minute of play. Jay Collier came out of the goal in the 91st minute to try and stop a shot by Lincoln's Adam Brooks . But to his dismay, Adam Brooks quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. When Phil Colley came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the Lincoln fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Phil Colley couldn't finish the play. Jay Collier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Adam Brooks in the 97th minute of play.
