Marc Poynton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Frank Cooke having to interfere. 15 minutes into the match, Notting Hill Gate City's goal looked a bit too open when Graeme Ellis came free, but Frank Cooke reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Mark Groves got free with Carl Robertson in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 19 minutes, Romeo Donaghy managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Tatsfield FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Romeo Donaghy was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The Tatsfield FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Romeo Donaghy stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gordon Day during the 59th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 89 minutes into the match, Tatsfield FC's Marc Poynton sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Frank Cooke narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Romeo Donaghy was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 96th minute. Tatsfield FC's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Tatsfield FC's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
