Trevor Pearson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bob Theobald in the 27th minute of play. A collision led to Redditch getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Harry Medley hit a great ball. After 37 played minutes Redditch got a freekick which was hit by Johnny Milton. Andrew Postolan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from George Routledge in the 39th minute of play. 43 minutes into the game, Frankie Anderson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Redditch's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Liverpool the free kick. Trevor Pearson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Frankie Anderson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 48th minute the ball was on its way in behind Redditch's goalkeeper Andrew Postolan, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Crispin Potterton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Liverpool's zone, Steven Blueman stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Trevor Pearson came out of the goal and Steven Blueman tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Bob Theobald received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Trevor Pearson came out and tried to block the shot, but Bob Theobald slotted it home off the left post making it 0-1 in the 65th minute. Crispin Potterton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. George Routledge fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Andrew Postolan having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bob Theobald in the 73rd minute of play forced Liverpool's goalkeeper Trevor Pearson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Harry Medley fell near the penalty area in the 81st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Redditch's protests and gave Harry Medley a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Liverpool booed when Redditch was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Harry Medley didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 82 minutes, George Routledge managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Liverpool's supporters crossed their fingers, but George Routledge was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Redditch's Andrew Postolan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Crispin Potterton in the 83rd minute of play. Trevor Pearson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bob Theobald, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. In the 87th minute George Routledge shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Andrew Postolan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bob Theobald in the 92nd minute of play forced Liverpool's goalkeeper Trevor Pearson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If George Routledge had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Redditch eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
