Louie Davis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rex Clapham having to interfere. In the 23rd minute Louie Davis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rex Clapham saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Pete Butterfield scored 1-1 in the 24th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Charlie Corby, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Charlie Corby took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pete Butterfield, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cambridge Athletic's defense didn't have a chance, in the 30th minute, when Stuart Flynn scored to the left of an out of position Charlie Corby, making the score, 2-1. When Gerry Burton fell near the penalty area in the 32nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Northwich's protests and gave Gerry Burton a yellow card for diving instead. Gerry Burton kicked well hit freekick during the 32nd minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Louie Davis in the 36th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rex Clapham saved Northwich from getting behind. Cambridge Athletic's Ben Fordham got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When the match had gone on for 39 minutes, Louie Davis put it in 2-2 from a short distance just to the right of Rex Clapham. Adam Alsford kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. Rex Clapham took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Louie Davis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Pete Butterfield was the one to do the kick off. A hard shot 54 in the game by Louie Davis from a close distance when the talented Rex Clapham managed to make a qualified save. Northwich's players were relieved. In the last second Rex Clapham throw himself and got hold of the ball when Louie Davis in the 58thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. Cambridge Athletic's Ben Fordham quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Damon Crowther, made in the 61st minute of the game. 63 minutes into the match, Cambridge Athletic's Will Hickson sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rex Clapham narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Louie Davis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rex Clapham made an important save on a dangerous shot by Louie Davis in the 71st minute. Will Hickson scored 2-4 in the 77th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Rex Clapham, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Northwich's Rex Clapham played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Louie Davis in the 82nd minute of play. After having played for 90 minutes, Tommy Evans managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cambridge Athletic's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tommy Evans was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Cambridge Athletic's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
