When Kenny Rushforth came up free with the goalie in the 17th minute, the Corby fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kenny Rushforth couldn't finish the play. When Corby's David Black in the 19th minute got a chance for a shot 19th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Ilkeston's goalie prevented a goal. James Little was extremely unlucky when he, in the 20th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. 22 minutes into the match, Corby's David Black sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Aaron Ripley narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When the match had gone on for 25 minutes, James Little put it in 1-0 from a short distance just to the right of Al Baum. In the 29th minute James Little shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Al Baum saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jacob Meehan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Al Baum tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Phil Allen during the 43rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 43 played minutes Corby got a freekick which was hit by Phil Allen. Antony Collingwood took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 44th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Al Baum. Corby's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Kenny Rushforth to strike the kick off in the second half. Al Baum made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from James Little in the 53rd minute of play. James Little sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After some careless play in the Corby defense, Jacob Meehan kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Al Baum. The Corby fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Al Baum should have stopped the shot. Tod Lowe's late challenge caught a Ilkeston's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Tod Lowe helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Corby getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Tod Lowe hit a great ball. Al Baum took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from James Little, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jane Trimble charged in rather forcefully in the 71st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jane Trimble the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 71 played minutes Ilkeston got a freekick which was hit by Jane Trimble. Kenny Rushforth fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aaron Ripley having to interfere. An unexpected shot in the 78th minute by Kenny Rushforth got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. In the 79th match minute, Corby was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jordan Downes to maneuver through the defense. 81 minutes into the game, James Little cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Al Baum was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Al Baum made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jacob Meehan in the 85th minute of play. James Little took the ball and in the 86 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Al Baum. Al Baum dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jacob Meehan in the 90th minute of play forced Corby's goalkeeper Al Baum to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Al Baum came out of the goal in the 91st minute to try and stop a shot by Ilkeston's James Little. But to his dismay, James Little quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 5-0. The audience was convinced that Jacob Meehan's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Al Baum was relentless in the 95th minute of the game. When James Little came up free with the goalie in the 96th minute, the Ilkeston fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that James Little couldn't finish the play. There was no doubt that Ilkeston were the better team. Ilkeston's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
