The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Neal Coates showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Jasper Trotter made a fantastic save in the 10th minute, when Roy Croft sent off a good shot on target. 16 minutes into the match, Harold Hill AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Sonny Deacon came free, but Neal Coates reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Neal Coates showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lenny Gregg, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. Roy Croft received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Jasper Trotter tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Harold Hill AFC's Forrest Henwood got a free kick in the 24th minute. Neal Coates came out of the goal in the 25th minute to try and stop a shot by Rangers's Sonny Deacon. But to his dismay, Sonny Deacon quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. After 28 played minutes Rangers got a freekick which was hit by Vern Chambers. After 32 played minutes Rangers got a freekick which was hit by Shane Hall. Roy Crofts short, quick shot in the 34thth minute got Jasper Trotter to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Lenny Gregg fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Neal Coates having to interfere. 45 minutes into the match, Johnathan Burley had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Neal Coates. Harold Hill AFC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Johnathan Burley was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Lenny Gregg was the one to do the kick off. If Roy Croft had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 61 minutes into the match, Harold Hill AFC's goalkeeper Neal Coates had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Sonny Deacon. If Gerry Roberts had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jasper Trotter took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Forrest Henwood, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Colin Kershaw fell near the penalty area in the 80th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Rangers's protests and gave Colin Kershaw a yellow card for diving instead. Basil Osmond hit a great freekick 81 minutes into the match. Gerry Roberts sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gerry Roberts in the 87th minute of play forced Rangers's goalkeeper Jasper Trotter to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rangers's Jasper Trotter played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gerry Roberts in the 94th minute of play. In the 95th minute Roy Croft shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jasper Trotter saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Rangers had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
