In the 9th minute, Ince's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Brian Rose fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Phil Lightfoot was out of position in the 12 minute of play, and Brian Rose capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Brian Rose really showed his touch with that goal: 2-0. Brian Rose's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Phil Lightfoot read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 15th minute of play. Phil Lightfoot showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alex Mortimer, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. In the 18th minute, Brian Rose fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Phil Lightfoot , passed just outside the right post. Tristan Routledge fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Phil Lightfoot having to interfere. After having played for 24 minutes, Brian Rose managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gainsborough FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Brian Rose was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Maurice Bryant sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Albert Barber made in the 29th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Gainsborough FC's Jamal Beattie. Alex Mortimer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Phil Lightfoot having to interfere. In the 42nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Ince's goalkeeper Phil Lightfoot , but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Alex Mortimer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Brian Rose struck a weak shot in the 46th minute. Phil Lightfoot didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gainsborough FC. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Brian Rose was the one to do the kick off. Brian Rose received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 51st minute. Phil Lightfoot tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 55th minute, Gainsborough FC's Stephen Holyfield seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Stephen Holyfield the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Gainsborough FC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Stephen Holyfield had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. Freddie Cousens made an important save on a dangerous shot by Martin Bateson in the 61st minute. Phil Lightfoot came out of the goal in the 65th minute to try and stop a shot by Gainsborough FC's Brian Rose. But to his dismay, Brian Rose quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-1. Ince's Phil Lightfoot played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Brian Rose in the 68th minute of play. Rio Abbotts fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Phil Lightfoot having to interfere. Gainsborough FC's Brian Rose got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 74 minutes into the match, Gainsborough FC's Tristan Routledge sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Phil Lightfoot narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Phil Lightfoot came out of the goal in the 83rd minute to try and stop a shot by Gainsborough FC's Brian Rose. But to his dismay, Brian Rose quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 7-1. 8-1 became the score in the 87th minute when Brian Rose elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Brian Rose received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 91st minute. Phil Lightfoot tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alex Mortimer in the 93rd minute of play forced Ince's goalkeeper Phil Lightfoot to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 94th minute, Brian Rose managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gainsborough FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Brian Rose was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Phil Lightfoot breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Gainsborough FC's Brian Rose got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. There was no doubt that Gainsborough FC were the better team. Gainsborough FC's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
