Washington's Harry Todd played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Babe Kelly in the 23rd minute of play. 27 minutes into the game, Babe Kelly cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Loughlin Silke to make the kick off. In the 56th minute Loughlin Silke shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bard Mullan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 61 minutes, Brazil Dempsey managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Washington's supporters crossed their fingers, but Brazil Dempsey was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Donan McTom's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Harry Todd read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 63rd minute of play. After a rather tough play, Washington's Daniel Gallagher got a free kick in the 66th minute. When Gattabaun's Babe Kelly, in the 67th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Gattabaun. The supporters of Gattabaun booed when Washington was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hugh Bayes didn't get a good kick on the ball. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Washington's Rorke Brennan got a free kick in the 97th minute. Babe Kelly sent away a hard shot on goal in the 100th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gattabaun played a much better game than Washington and deserved their victory. The Washington players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
