Knocksquire's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Achill FC the free kick. Buach McSteve shot the penalty kick right outside the post. Gill Todd took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 9th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Dermot McBrandon. Achill FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 11th minute, Bearnard McWillie hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 12 minutes into the match, Richard McAaron notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Achill FC's Dermot McBrandon. Dermot McBrandon was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 15th minute, Donavon Grant hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 24th match minute, Knocksquire was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gill Todd to maneuver through the defense. Richard McAaron recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 30th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Donald McJohn fell near the penalty area in the 32nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Knocksquire's protests and gave Donald McJohn a yellow card for diving instead. Donald McJohn kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. A collision led to Knocksquire getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Donald McJohn hit a great ball. When Raymond Hutton fell near the penalty area in the 40th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Knocksquire's protests and gave Raymond Hutton a yellow card for diving instead. In the 40th match minute, Knocksquire was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Raymond Hutton to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Knocksquire's zone, Baird Bayes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Herne McSteven came out of the goal and Baird Bayes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Richard McAaron received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Dermot McBrandon tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Herne McSteven showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Baird Bayes in the 46th minute of the match. After 47 minutes of play Knocksquire's Donald McJohn was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. After a rather tough play, Knocksquire's Donald McJohn got a free kick in the 48th minute. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

55 minutes into the game, Baird Bayes cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Herne McSteven was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 62nd minute, Donlevy Rutherford hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Herne McSteven showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Donlevy Rutherford, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. Donall Cassin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Herne McSteven having to interfere. If Baird Bayes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Brenda Rutherford received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Dermot McBrandon tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Herne McSteven took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Donall Cassin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Brenda Rutherford came up free with the goalie in the 82nd minute, the Knocksquire fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Brenda Rutherford couldn't finish the play. If Baird Bayes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 95 minutes into the match, Achill FC's goalkeeper Dermot McBrandon had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Brenda Rutherford. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Knocksquire eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
