Cloonfinish's Raymond Lester played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abbot Crowe in the 13th minute of play. Davie Frankson made a fantastic save in the 15th minute, when Hugh Molloy sent off a good shot on target. Davie Frankson made an important save on a dangerous shot by Hugh Molloy in the 17th minute. If Abbot Crowe had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Raymond Lester took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Donn Robinson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Cloonfinish defense, Abbot Crowe kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Raymond Lester. The Cloonfinish fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Raymond Lester should have stopped the shot. In the 46th minute, Donagh Benson left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Hermitage FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. After the first half Hermitage FC were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Cian McJohn to strike the kick off in the second half. After 51 played minutes Cloonfinish got a freekick which was hit by Scothine McJames. 56 minutes into the match, Cloonfinish's goal looked a bit too open when Donn Robinson came free, but Raymond Lester reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 59th minute Cian McJohn shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Davie Frankson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Hugh Molloy had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Hugh Molloy came up free with the goalie in the 85th minute, the Cloonfinish fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hugh Molloy couldn't finish the play. Hermitage FC's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
