Conleth McDonald received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. Braoin Prunty tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 21 minutes into the match, Monaghan AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Beatty Gollogley came free, but Braoin Prunty reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Arthur Tracy hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. If Beatty Gollogley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Braoin Prunty took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Beatty Gollogley, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Ferdia McWill made the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute, Beatty Gollogley reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Braoin Prunty. The goal made the score 0-3. 58 minutes into the match, Birr McJames had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Phelan Byrne. Cragg's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Birr McJames was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. Conleth McDonald struck a weak shot in the 61st minute. Braoin Prunty didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cragg. After 63 played minutes Monaghan AFC got a freekick which was hit by Blaine Quinnless. Bradain Gillmour was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 64th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. After 66 minutes, Ferdia McWill mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Monaghan AFC and the Cragg players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 67th minute, Ferdia McWill hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Monaghan AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Birr McJames was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Donavon McFrank sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Beatty Gollogley struck a weak shot in the 89th minute. Braoin Prunty didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cragg. Donavon McFrank was extremely unlucky when he, in the 92nd minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Braoin Prunty made an important save on a dangerous shot by Beatty Gollogley in the 94th minute. Cragg's Phelan Byrne played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ferdia McWill in the 98th minute of play. Cragg played a much better game than Monaghan AFC and deserved their victory. The Monaghan AFC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
