Birr McJohnny took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Reidy McSteve, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 18th minute, Bola Silke got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The Coolnageragh fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Birr McJohnny should have stopped the shot. Denny Cooney showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Donncha Quinnless in the 35th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Scrahan's zone, Donncha Quinnless stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. If Baran McPhil had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Reidy McSteve to strike the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Scrahan booed when Coolnageragh was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Donn McWill didn't get a good kick on the ball. It was beautiful to see Coolnageragh's Nolen McNamara in action when he in the 74th minute dribbled his way through a couple of opponents and the fired away a shot from almost standing still. First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. A great chance! Beagan Rutherford struck a weak shot in the 77th minute. Coolnageragh's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Coolnageragh fans cheered their team off the field, for while Scrahan had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
