All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

With a little luck, Spaville's Beagan Harkin got control of the ball when Gaynor McBrandon tried to sneak it across the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gaynor McBrandon got free with Beagan Harkin in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Irwin McFrank's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Beagan Harkin read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 61st minute of play. In the 80th minute Lee McGlynn shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aengus McPeter saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
