Cuilkillew
Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000,
Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Ferdia Prunty took the kick off in the first half of the match. When the match had been going on for 4 minutes, Cuilkillew's Derin Frankson got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Rowland Moran. Through an outstanding action, after 10 minutes, Rowland Moran successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Finn Silke took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ferdia Prunty, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gilbert McGlynn sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 21st minute, Salmon McSteven hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Cleary Lester's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Rowland Moran read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 23rd minute of play. In the 24th minute of the match Breasal Dempsey sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Rowland Moran skillfully saved the ball. 30 minutes into the match, Cuilkillew's Tate Dillon sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rowland Moran narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Tate Dillon could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 36th minute of the match, but Rowland Moran made a huge save. The crowd rose to their feet as Cuilkillew's Cleary Lester slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Rowland Moran. That made the score 2-0 after 38 minutes of play. Tate Dillon's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 44thth minute, Rowland Moran skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Tate Dillon's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Rowland Moran read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 46th minute of play.
The wind increased when Cleary Lester made the kick off in the second half. The audience was convinced that Gilbert McGlynn's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Finn Silke was relentless in the 52nd minute of the game. Glenn Holt's late challenge caught a Cottian's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Glenn Holt helped the player get up and apologised. In the 53rd match minute, Cuilkillew was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Glenn Holt to maneuver through the defense. 59 minutes into the match, Cottian's Gilbert McGlynn sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Finn Silke narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 62nd minute Tate Dillon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rowland Moran saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rowland Moran stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Tate Dillon's shot from short distance in the 63rd minute. Tate Dillon recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 68th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Cleary Lester came up free with the goalie in the 69th minute, the Cuilkillew fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cleary Lester couldn't finish the play. 75 minutes into the match, Tate Dillon had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Rowland Moran. Cottian's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tate Dillon was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0. Rowland Moran showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tate Dillon, who was totally free with the ball in the 80th minute. In the 83rd minute Tate Dillon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rowland Moran saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cleary Lester in the 85th minute of play forced Cottian's goalkeeper Rowland Moran to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Tate Dillon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dolan Deery was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 97 minutes into the match. When the match had been going on for 99 minutes, Cottian's Briain Murphy got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Finn Silke. Cuilkillew's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
