Spectators: 6771 (Terracing: 5000,
Seating: 1771, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Bran Scully took the kick off in the first half of the match. Hugh Coyle fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bowie Delaney having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Muineagh's Dillon Grant got a free kick in the 8th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gaynor Colwell during the 10th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Muineagh's Gaynor Colwell got a free kick in the 11th minute. In the 11th minute Hugh Coyle shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bowie Delaney saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Theobald McPaul sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Hugh Coyle might have been able to make a better finish in the 17th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Bowie Delaney. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Hugh Coyle ran back to his position shaking his head. Hugh Coyle blasted a shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Bowie Delaney having to make a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hugh Coyle in the 25th minute of play forced Muineagh's goalkeeper Bowie Delaney to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gilian Holt's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Brendon McPhil read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 30th minute of play. Hugh Coyle received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Bowie Delaney tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Theobald McPaul sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Shanvally's Brendon McPhil played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bran Scully in the 43rd minute of play. With a little luck, Shanvally's Brendon McPhil got control of the ball when Gilian Holt tried to sneak it across the goal line. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Theobald McPaul to make the kick off. Muineagh were furious when Dillon Grant was red carded, 55 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. Gilian Holt charged in rather forcefully in the 60th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Gilian Holt the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Muineagh getting a freekick after 60 minutes play. Gilian Holt hit a great ball. Bowie Delaney made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Theobald McPaul in the 61st minute of play. Rian McLaughlin recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 73rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Gilian Holt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brendon McPhil having to interfere. Brogan Doherty hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. The long shot by Becan McIan in the 81st minute really tested Bowie Delaney's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Brendon McPhil took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gilian Holt, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 89th minute, Theobald McPaul fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Bowie Delaney, passed just outside the right post. When Brogan Doherty came up free with the goalie in the 93rd minute, the Shanvally fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Brogan Doherty couldn't finish the play. Bowie Delaney took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Theobald McPaul, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 98th minute, Gilian Holt managed to get in a good position for a shot. Muineagh's supporters rose to their feet, but Gilian Holt was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Brendon McPhil breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Muineagh's Gaynor Colwell got a good chance for a goal in the 100th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The Shanvally supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Shanvally would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
