Spectators: 6769 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1769, VIP seats: 0) Brine Costello started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. In the 6th minute, Breadan Gillmour got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Kildare's zone, Breadan Gillmour stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. John Todd came out of the goal and Breadan Gillmour tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. John Todd made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Brine Costello in the 14th minute of play. If Breadan Gillmour had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. John Todd didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Brine Costello went, in the 27th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. In the 33rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Kildare's goalkeeper John Todd, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Edwin McBrand kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. 43 minutes into the game, Killeany's Brine Costello nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. John Todd made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Brine Costello in the 53rd minute of play forced Kildare's goalkeeper John Todd to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 56th minute of the match, Breadan Gillmour got a very nice opportunity to score, but John Todd was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. In the 60th minute, Brine Costello fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. When Boyle Dimson fell near the penalty area in the 62nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Killeany's protests and gave Boyle Dimson a yellow card for diving instead. Boyle Dimson hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. In the 63rd minute of the match Piers Beckett sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Bedilia Robinson skillfully saved the ball. Breadan Gillmour received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. John Todd tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Kildare's Edwin McBrand got a free kick in the 66th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Blaire McDecland during the 72nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Killeany booed when Kildare was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Blaire McDecland didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Breadan Gillmour got free with John Todd in the 78th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 80 played minutes Kildare got a freekick which was hit by Edwin McBrand. John Todd made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Brine Costello in the 84th minute of play. After having played for 85 minutes, Breadan Gillmour managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Killeany's supporters crossed their fingers, but Breadan Gillmour was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 87th minute, Biddy Hunt got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Breadan Gillmour struck a weak shot in the 92nd minute. John Todd didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Killeany. The Kildare fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Killeany were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
