The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 4th minute of the match, Rian McPhil got a very nice opportunity to score, but Beag Matthews was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. 11 minutes into the match, Freynestown's goal looked a bit too open when Reilley Ryan came free, but Beag Matthews reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Beag Matthews was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Reilley Ryan showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 18 minute of play. Rian McPhil took the ball and in the 23 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Beag Matthews. Beag Matthews dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. After a rather tough play, Freynestown's Raonall Rogers got a free kick in the 30th minute. Beag Matthews came out of the goal in the 31st minute to try and stop a shot by Ballymullen FC's Rian McPhil. But to his dismay, Rian McPhil quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. With his leg Beag Matthews managed to avoid a goal in the 36thth minute, when Ballymullen FC's Rian McPhil fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Shey McBjarton charged in rather forcefully in the 38th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Shey McBjarton the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Freynestown getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. After a defensive mix-up in Freynestown's zone, Reilley Ryan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Beag Matthews came out of the goal and Reilley Ryan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Beag Matthews showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rian McPhil in the 59th minute of the match. Beag Matthews didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Robert McAlphie went, in the 61st minute, to the upper right corner, 4-0 was the resulting score. Freynestown's Seoirse Caffrey got a good chance for a goal in the 69th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Pearson McNamaras short, quick shot in the 72ndth minute got Baiste Prunty to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Pearson McNamara struck a weak shot in the 73rd minute. Baiste Prunty didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Freynestown. Brasil Myler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Beag Matthews having to interfere. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Ballymullen FC fully deserved thier win.
