After a rather tough play, Glengarriff's Irving Dimson got a free kick in the 6th minute. The supporters of Abbeyleix Utd booed when Glengarriff was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ailín Doyle didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rourke Costello, 9 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. After 10 played minutes Abbeyleix Utd got a freekick which was hit by Brain McAlphie. In the 16th minute, Arthur Lester fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Terence O'Down, passed just outside the right post. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Rourke Costello during the 20th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 19 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Abbeyleix Utd! In the 21st minute, Bressal Deery left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Glengarriff fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Brain McAlphie kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. Beamard McSteven sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Abbeyleix Utd's Gehan McLian played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Beamard McSteven in the 28th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Glengarriff's zone, Arthur Lester stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Terence O'Down came out of the goal and Arthur Lester tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Terence O'Down made a fantastic save in the 33rd minute, when Arthur Lester sent off a good shot on target. In the 34th minute, Blathmac Deans hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 44th minute, Arthur Lester left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Abbeyleix Utd fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Geary Gallagher charged in rather forcefully in the 47th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Geary Gallagher the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Abbeyleix Utd getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Geary Gallagher hit a great ball. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Blathmac Deans made a kick off. Terence O'Down took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Blathmac Deans, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Blathmac Deans in the 54th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Terence O'Down prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Terence O'Down showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Arthur Lester, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. When Glengarriff's Beamard McSteven in the 60th minute got a chance for a shot 60th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Abbeyleix Utd's goalie prevented a goal. Blathmac Deans received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 93rd minute, Beamard McSteven managed to get in a good position for a shot. Glengarriff's supporters rose to their feet, but Beamard McSteven was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gehan McLian breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Brede Holt fell near the penalty area in the 94th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Abbeyleix Utd's protests and gave Brede Holt a yellow card for diving instead.
