The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After having played for 3 minutes, Beara Moran managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Derrymullan's supporters crossed their fingers, but Beara Moran was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 10th minute, Dawayne Byrne ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Boudibiua McNamara was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Herich McNamara stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Darren Jameson's shot from short distance in the 15th minute. Beara Moran recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 19th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Darren Jameson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 30th minute Darren Jameson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Herich McNamara saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Darren Jameson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Herich McNamara tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Athboy FC getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Donan Dillon hit a great ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

In the 51stth minute of the game Becc McLian who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Athboy FC's Boudibiua McNamara was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Boudibiua McNamara made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Raonall Palmer in the 52nd minute of play. When the match had gone on for 79 minutes, Dawayne Byrne put it in 2-0 from a short distance just to the right of Boudibiua McNamara. In the 85th minute, Dawayne Byrne ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Boudibiua McNamara was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. Derrymullan's Dawayne Byrne got a good chance for a goal in the 88th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Derrymullan's Beara Moran got a good chance for a goal in the 90th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Darren Jameson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Derrymullan had won after a very even match.
