Breffni Tracy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Garr FC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 7th minute, when Babe McWillie scored to the left of an out of position Breffni Tracy, making the score, 1-0. Hewney Brennan who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 9thth minute tested the skills of Breffni Tracy when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 11 minutes into the match, Barnaderg's goal looked a bit too open when Brennen Ryan came free, but Pawd Savic reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Barnaderg's Babe McWillie got a good chance for a goal in the 13th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Barnaderg booed when Garr FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tipraite Dunne didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 16th minute, Hewney Brennan managed to get in a good position for a shot. Barnaderg's supporters rose to their feet, but Hewney Brennan was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Breffni Tracy breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of Barnaderg booed when Garr FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Suibhne McCollion didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.
The wind increased when Finnigan McMichel made the kick off in the second half. Suibhne McCollion's late challenge caught a Barnaderg's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Suibhne McCollion helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Garr FC getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Suibhne McCollion hit a great ball. Hewney Brennan struck a weak shot in the 57th minute. Breffni Tracy didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Barnaderg. After some fancy dribbling in the 60th minute, Finnigan McMichel managed to get in a good position for a shot.
