The audience was convinced that Farrell Tierney's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Bearchan Cooney was relentless in the 12th minute of the game. Clonkirk's Bearchan Cooney played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Farrell Tierney in the 20th minute of play. The supporters of Clonkirk booed when FC Athenry was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 35 match minutes in a wonderful position. Turlough McSteven didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 38th minute, Bealtaine Caffrey got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Bealtaine Caffrey might have been able to make a better finish in the 43rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Boynton Crowe. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Bealtaine Caffrey ran back to his position shaking his head. 44 minutes into the match, Clonkirk's Robert Byrne sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Boynton Crowe narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The wind increased when Farrell Tierney made the kick off in the second half. In the 78th minute, Robert Byrne made a precise shot to the right of Boynton Crowe. FC Athenry's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-1. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Bragain McTommy during the 80th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 80 played minutes Clonkirk got a freekick which was hit by Bragain McTommy. 82 minutes into the match, Donell Caffrey had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Bearchan Cooney. Clonkirk's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Donell Caffrey was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-2. Boynton Crowe took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Robert Byrne, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Artt Deans charged in rather forcefully in the 87th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Artt Deans the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, FC Athenry's Artt Deans got a free kick in the 87th minute. Boynton Crowe showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Declan Jameson in the 93rd minute of the match. For all the effort they put into the match, the FC Athenry players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Clonkirk.
