Barr McJohnny could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 31st minute of the match, but Patrick Deans made a huge save. Ray's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Cianán McTom in the 32nd minute. Cianán McTom made a great header on Ray's corner, it was just that Rathcool's Patrick Deans managed to reach the ball for a save. 34 minutes into the game, Barr McJohnny was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Patrick Deans showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Patrick Deans made an important save on a dangerous shot by Barr McJohnny in the 43rd minute. The supporters of Ray booed when Rathcool was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Aubrey Glen Crowe didn't get a good kick on the ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Harrigan Bayes made a kick off. Dinny McLiam showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bressail Colwell in the 51st minute of the match. In the 53rd minute Bowen Jameson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Patrick Deans saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 54th minute Shannon Gallagher suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. 54 minutes into the game, Irwin McSteve was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Rathcool's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ray the free kick. Harrigan Bayes charged in rather forcefully in the 56th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Harrigan Bayes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Rathcool getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Harrigan Bayes hit a great ball. In the 59th minute, Cleary Myler got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Rathcool's supporters crossed their fingers, but Irwin McSteve was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dinny McLiam made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Harrigan Bayes in the 71st minute of play. A collision led to Rathcool getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Breck Scully hit a great ball. Dermod Mulvihill sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 78 minutes of play, Ray's Barr McJohnny made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Patrick Deans was left in no man's land by his defense there! Cleary Myler made in the 87th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Barr McJohnny. Barrie Dempsey made in the 90th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Rathcool's Dermod Mulvihill. For all the effort they put into the match, the Rathcool players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Ray.
