The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience was convinced that Damian Dalton's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Todd Dempsey was relentless in the 7th minute of the game. Todd Dempsey showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Damian Dalton in the 9th minute of the match. If Reidy Lavine had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 13 minutes in the game, Brenn McJohn dribbled his way through the penalty area and after maneuvering past an opponent, drilled a quick shot at the goal. The ball looked like it was going in, but it was hit a bit too hard and flew over the goal. 17 minutes into the game, Letterlough's Damian Dalton nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Todd Dempsey made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Letterlough's Roland Dimson proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 20th minute of the match, managed to save Letterlough from getting a goal against them. In the 26th minute, Brenn McJohn hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Damian Dalton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Todd Dempsey having to interfere. 31 minutes into the match, Reidy Lavine had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Todd Dempsey. Clonyhague's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Reidy Lavine was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. After a defensive mix-up in Clonyhague's zone, Reidy Lavine stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Todd Dempsey came out of the goal and Reidy Lavine tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Reidy Lavine came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the Letterlough fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Reidy Lavine couldn't finish the play. Clonyhague's Todd Dempsey played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rollin McFrancise in the 38th minute of play. Roland Dimson didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Casey Hughes went, in the 39th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. After some fancy dribbling in the 46th minute, Reidy Lavine managed to get in a good position for a shot. Letterlough's supporters rose to their feet, but Reidy Lavine was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Todd Dempsey breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Brigid Savic to strike the kick off in the second half. If Damian Dalton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Todd Dempsey made an important save on a dangerous shot by Reidy Lavine in the 58th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Barde Silke got free with Todd Dempsey in the 60th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Reidy Lavine came up free with the goalie in the 65th minute, the Letterlough fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Reidy Lavine couldn't finish the play. Reidy Lavine fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Todd Dempsey having to interfere. Clonyhague's Todd Dempsey proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 72nd minute of the match, managed to save Clonyhague from getting a goal against them. In the 74th match minute, Clonyhague was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Casey Hughes to maneuver through the defense. Brenn McJohn took the ball and in the 78 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Roland Dimson. Roland Dimson dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-3. Letterlough's Reidy Lavine got a good chance for a goal in the 82nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Reidy Lavine could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 85th minute of the match, but Todd Dempsey made a huge save. In the 86th minute, Clonyhague's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Damian Dalton fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. 89 minutes into the game, Eoin Callaghan cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-4. Todd Dempsey was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 94th minute Damian Dalton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Todd Dempsey saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Letterlough's Damian Dalton in the 96th minute got a chance for a shot 96th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Clonyhague's goalie prevented a goal.
