The Geevagh fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Teigue Crowe should have stopped the shot. The supporters of Up The Dubs booed when Geevagh was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Roland Sheridan didn't get a good kick on the ball. Babe Duggan might have been able to make a better finish in the 32nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Danann McCready. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Babe Duggan ran back to his position shaking his head. 32 minutes into the match, Up The Dubs's goalkeeper Danann McCready had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Babe Duggan. Danann McCready made a fantastic save in the 36th minute, when Babe Duggan sent off a good shot on target. The audience thought a goal was coming when Babe Duggan got free with Danann McCready in the 38th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Bat McSteven fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Danann McCready having to interfere. After the first half Up The Dubs were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Henry McPaul was the one to do the kick off. Babe Duggan's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Danann McCready read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 53rd minute of play.
