Damian Dalton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 8th minute. Fintan Doherty tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 14th match minute, Letterlough was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bodibeve Glen Crowe to maneuver through the defense. In the 18th minute Damian Dalton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fintan Doherty saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dundalk FC's Fintan Doherty played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Reidy Lavine in the 19th minute of play. Reidy Lavine sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After 23 minutes, Kyle Dillon mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Dundalk FC and the Letterlough players grew even worse after the yellow card. After some fancy dribbling in the 26th minute, Breandan Cooney managed to get in a good position for a shot. Dundalk FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Breandan Cooney was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Damian Dalton to make the kick off. Oliver Robinson kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Damian Dalton couldn't finish the play. After 86 played minutes Letterlough got a freekick which was hit by Damian Dalton. 92 minutes into the match, Dundalk FC's goalkeeper Fintan Doherty had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Reidy Lavine. The supporters of Letterlough booed when Dundalk FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Oliver Robinson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Letterlough's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
