In the 6th match minute, Newtownbarry FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Raymond Keegan to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Newtownbarry FC's zone, Gehan Moran stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tierney McGlenn came out of the goal and Gehan Moran tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Irwin McJohnny showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Boyce Dalton in the 10th minute of the match. Bairne Hughes's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Irwin McJohnny firmly grabbed it by the left post. Raymond Keegan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 17th minute the ball was on its way in behind Newtownbarry FC's goalkeeper Tierney McGlenn, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Shankill's Irwin McJohnny played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Boyce Dalton in the 27th minute of play. Riddoc Bayes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tierney McGlenn having to interfere. Irwin McJohnny showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Raymond Keegan in the 35th minute of the match. After 38 played minutes Shankill got a freekick which was hit by Pearce Johnson. 46 minutes into the game, Killian Delaney was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Newtownbarry FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Shankill the free kick. Rowley Frankson didn't quite understand what happened when in the 49 minute of the game managed to get a great opportunity for a goal and then missed the goal by a feet.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Boyce Dalton to make the kick off. In the 56th minute Bairne Hughes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Irwin McJohnny saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Boyce Dalton in the 71st minute of play forced Shankill's goalkeeper Irwin McJohnny to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 76 minutes into the game, Boyce Dalton cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Irwin McJohnny was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Basil McPaul kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. The referee gave Riddoc Bayes a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game.
