After some careless play in the Caherlane defense, Beolagh McFrank kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Leonard Lester. The Caherlane fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Leonard Lester should have stopped the shot. 20 minutes into the match, Dundalk's goalkeeper Pauric Coyle had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Dillon Scully. In the 24th match minute, Dundalk was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Torna Doherty to maneuver through the defense. If Dillon Scully had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Boyle Willson hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. Caherlane's Breck Mulvihill couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 37th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Dundalk. Barney Todd charged in rather forcefully in the 40th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Barney Todd the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 41st match minute, Dundalk was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Barney Todd to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Dundalk's zone, Rorry Perth stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Pauric Coyle came out of the goal and Rorry Perth tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Breck Mulvihill in the 46th minute of play forced Dundalk's goalkeeper Pauric Coyle to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Dillon Scully to make the kick off. The attack was good, but when Dillon Scully in the 51st minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. The audience was convinced that Rorry Perth's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Pauric Coyle was relentless in the 92nd minute of the game. Rorry Perth fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pauric Coyle having to interfere. Chants of Dundalk echoed around the stadium as the match drew to a close. Supporters and players were both delighted with the win, as Caherlane had held the ball for most of the match.
