Quinton Prunty's late challenge caught a Shamrock Rovers's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Quinton Prunty helped the player get up and apologised. Quinton Prunty hit a great freekick 3 minutes into the match. Clongeen's Pat Rutherford proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 6th minute of the match, managed to save Clongeen from getting a goal against them. The Shamrock Rovers fans' excitement grew in the 11th match minute when Shamrock Rovers's Gearoid Savic looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Robustiano Tino scored 2-0 in the 15th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Pat Rutherford, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Charly Meulemans showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Baodan Horgan, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. After 25 minutes of play, Shamrock Rovers's Robustiano Tino made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Pat Rutherford was left in no man's land by his defense there! After 27 played minutes Shamrock Rovers got a freekick which was hit by Brandan Crowe. After 30 minutes, Robustiano Tino mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Shamrock Rovers and the Clongeen players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Shamrock Rovers getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Robustiano Tino hit a great ball. Brine McCready charged in rather forcefully in the 34th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Brine McCready the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Brine McCready hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. After 36 played minutes Clongeen got a freekick which was hit by Donavon McBrandon. In the 39th minute, Brine McCready left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Clongeen fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. Pat Rutherford was a little too slow when Robustiano Tino got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 44th minute. The score was now 4-1. Af the end of the first half the score was 4-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Gearoid Savic sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 55th minute, Robustiano Tino left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Shamrock Rovers fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 5-1. Bairee Rogers hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. After 59 played minutes Clongeen got a freekick which was hit by Boyd Branson. Pat Rutherford made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Robustiano Tino in the 67th minute of play. The supporters of Clongeen booed when Shamrock Rovers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Robustiano Tino didn't get a good kick on the ball. Charly Meulemans made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Boyd Branson in the 75th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Brine McCready got free with Charly Meulemans in the 79th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 7-1 became the score in the 85th minute when Boyne Gallagher elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. When the referee ended the match the Shamrock Rovers players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
