Shamrock Rovers's Charly Meulemans proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 9th minute of the match, managed to save Shamrock Rovers from getting a goal against them. In the 15th minute, Patton Brennan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Bairee Rogers hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 20th minute, Tevis Willson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cait Dubh Athy's supporters rose to their feet, but Tevis Willson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Charly Meulemans breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Shamrock Rovers's Robustiano Tino got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ionel Rogozea made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Robustiano Tino in the 27th minute of play. After having played for 29 minutes, Robustiano Tino managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Shamrock Rovers's supporters crossed their fingers, but Robustiano Tino was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Robustiano Tino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ionel Rogozea having to interfere. In the 42nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Cait Dubh Athy's goalkeeper Ionel Rogozea, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After having played for 44 minutes, Tevis Willson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cait Dubh Athy's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tevis Willson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

Brefni Benson struck a weak shot in the 53rd minute. Ionel Rogozea didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Shamrock Rovers. The supporters of Shamrock Rovers booed when Cait Dubh Athy was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bealtaine Caffey didn't get a good kick on the ball. Cait Dubh Athy made a substitution. Finn McOliver replaced Abban Colwell. 68 minutes into the game, Tevis Willson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Cait Dubh Athy's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Shamrock Rovers the free kick. A collision led to Cait Dubh Athy getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Tevis Willson hit a great ball. Shamrock Rovers's Charly Meulemans played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tevis Willson in the 70th minute of play. 70 minutes into the match, Cait Dubh Athy's goal looked a bit too open when Robustiano Tino came free, but Ionel Rogozea reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Tevis Willson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Finn McOliver in the 74th minute of play forced Shamrock Rovers's goalkeeper Charly Meulemans to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Brefni Benson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cait Dubh Athy's Conor McVictor was substituted for Ennis Benson. Boyne Gallagher sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Charly Meulemans came out of the goal in the 92nd minute to try and stop a shot by Cait Dubh Athy's Tevis Willson. But to his dismay, Tevis Willson quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Cait Dubh Athy were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest.
