The supporters of Catstown booed when Athy was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Balor Mullan didn't get a good kick on the ball. Kerrigan McLian charged in rather forcefully in the 43rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Kerrigan McLian the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Henry McBrand fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brenden Barrett having to interfere.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Balor Mullan to strike the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the game, Baiscend McTom was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Athy's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Catstown the free kick. After a rather tough play, Athy's Coran Tracy got a free kick in the 56th minute. The Athy fans' excitement grew in the 68th match minute when Athy's Balor Mullan looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Brenden Barrett took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Henry McBrand, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 76th minute, Fionntán McPhilip made a precise shot to the right of Brenden Barrett. Athy's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-1. In the 79th minute, Baiscend McTom fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Baiscend McTom hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. In the 93rd minute, Briain Morrison got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 94th match minute, Catstown was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Henry McBrand to maneuver through the defense. Catstown's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
