When Donell Prunty came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Ballytrasna fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Donell Prunty couldn't finish the play. Brenna Sheridan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Breslin Gough in the 28th minute of play. In the 30th minute of the match Coolnacon FC got a corner. Ballytrasna's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Beothach Murphy ran over to the corner to take the kick. After a rather tough play, Coolnacon FC's Bannan Branson got a free kick in the 30th minute. Gil Caffey sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Blian Caffey received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Brenna Sheridan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Brenna Sheridan didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Blian Caffey went, in the 37th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. In the 42nd minute Breslin Gough shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brenna Sheridan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fergus McSteven's late challenge caught a Coolnacon FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Fergus McSteven helped the player get up and apologised. After 47 played minutes Coolnacon FC got a freekick which was hit by Breslin Gough. After the first half Coolnacon FC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Breslin Gough stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ballytrasna's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gil Caffey was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
