They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

After a defensive mix-up in Hayle's zone, Wes Laurie stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Phil Brewer came out of the goal and Wes Laurie tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Phil Brewer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wes Laurie, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lawrence Furlong in the 55th minute of play forced Hayle's goalkeeper Phil Brewer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Hayle getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. George Marlow hit a great ball. Lawrence Furlong sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Phil Brewer stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Lawrence Furlong's shot from short distance in the 88th minute. Lawrence Furlong sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Trevor Legzdins fell near the penalty area in the 91st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Hayle's protests and gave Trevor Legzdins a yellow card for diving instead. After 91 played minutes Hayle got a freekick which was hit by Trevor Legzdins. Wes Laurie's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Phil Brewer read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 92nd minute of play. Wes Laurie sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Hayle's David Furlong got a free kick in the 95th minute. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Eltham AFC lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
