Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Formby's Tommy Hatcher started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The Paignton fans' excitement grew in the 3rd match minute when Paignton's Sol Cornish looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Paignton's Jamal Boland proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 9th minute of the match, managed to save Paignton from getting a goal against them. Jamal Boland made a fantastic save in the 12th minute, when Stuart Clayson sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Paignton getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Terry Haley hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Paignton's Terry Haley got a free kick in the 14th minute. Louie Lovett was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 15th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Vernon Fawcett hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. The supporters of Formby booed when Paignton was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dom Beale didn't get a good kick on the ball. Sol Cornish received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Bobby Long tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 35 minutes, Tommy Hatcher managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Formby's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tommy Hatcher was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Formby's Tommy Hatcher in the 45th minute got a chance for a shot 45th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Paignton's goalie prevented a goal. If Tommy Hatcher had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Formby players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Paignton were winning 0-1.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Stew Tabb to strike the kick off in the second half. Tommy Hatcher took the ball and in the 53 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jamal Boland. Jamal Boland dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Paignton's Sol Cornish got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Sol Cornish sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 71 minutes into the game, Tommy Hatcher cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Jamal Boland was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Jamal Boland came out of the goal in the 79th minute to try and stop a shot by Formby's Stuart Clayson. But to his dismay, Stuart Clayson quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-1. Paignton's Jamal Boland played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tommy Hatcher in the 84th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Tommy Hatcher's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jamal Boland was relentless in the 86th minute of the game. In the 89th minute, Tommy Hatcher got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 90 minutes, Marlon Robinson mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Paignton and the Formby players grew even worse after the yellow card. Marlon Robinson kicked well hit freekick during the 90th minute of the match. Paignton's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
