After 6 played minutes Coventry got a freekick which was hit by Paul Heath. 6 minutes into the match, Coventry's goal looked a bit too open when Kristopher Lineker came free, but Toby Forster reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Stannington City's Des Griffin quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Karl Llewellyn, made in the 9th minute of the game. After 9 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Coventry! Toby Forster had in the 11thth minute some difficulties stopping Kristopher Lineker's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Toby Forster came out of the goal in the 11th minute to try and stop a shot by Stannington City's Kristopher Lineker. But to his dismay, Kristopher Lineker quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Ralf Mills made an important save on a dangerous shot by Simeon Culverhouse in the 15th minute. In the 18th minute, Coventry's Simeon Culverhouse dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-1. Basil Forrest fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ralf Mills having to interfere. If Des Griffin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Des Griffin struck a weak shot in the 25th minute. Toby Forster didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Stannington City. Toby Forster showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Louie Keyworth, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. Simeon Culverhouse kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. If Louie Keyworth had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 42nd minute of the match Kristopher Lineker sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Toby Forster skillfully saved the ball. Sidney Leighton charged in rather forcefully in the 46th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Sidney Leighton the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 47th minute, Sidney Leighton hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 48th minute, Vance Blake managed to get in a good position for a shot. Coventry's supporters rose to their feet, but Vance Blake was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ralf Mills breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The wind increased when Basil Forrest made the kick off in the second half. After 54 minutes Stannington City's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Vance Blake who took care of the corner kick. A nice corner shot did that Vance Blake got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Ralf Mills quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Kristopher Lineker took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 58th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Toby Forster. Coventry's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After a rather tough play, Coventry's Paul Heath got a free kick in the 61st minute. In the 68th minute Des Griffin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Toby Forster saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Louie Keyworth sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 73rd match minute, Stannington City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Les Turner to maneuver through the defense. Des Griffin struck a weak shot in the 76th minute. Toby Forster didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Stannington City. If Louie Keyworth had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. If Damon Fairfax had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 83rd minute of the match, Louie Keyworth tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Toby Forster saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Simeon Culverhouse in the 86th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ralf Mills saved Stannington City from getting behind. Toby Forster took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Louie Keyworth, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Des Griffin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Toby Forster having to interfere. Ralf Mills didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Basil Forrest went, in the 94th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. Many of Stannington City's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Stannington City may have spent more time on the ball, but Coventry were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
