Freddy Dexter was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Brendon Deveraux showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 6 minute of play. Damon Bower fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jeff Winterburn having to interfere. If Ron Prior had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 20th minute Ron Prior shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jeff Winterburn saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jeff Winterburn took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ron Prior, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 26 minutes into the match, Ashburton's Damon Bower sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jeff Winterburn narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Damon Bower scored 1-1 in the 30th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jeff Winterburn, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. If Damon Bower had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Brendon Deveraux could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but Freddy Dexter made a huge save. Damon Bower blasted a shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jeff Winterburn having to make a save. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Barry Rawson to strike the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Ashburton's zone, Brendon Deveraux stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Freddy Dexter came out of the goal and Brendon Deveraux tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Barry Rawson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 59th minute, Brendon Deveraux left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Yate AF fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. If Barry Rawson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. With his leg Jeff Winterburn managed to avoid a goal in the 68thth minute, when Ashburton's Ron Prior fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Ron Prior scored 2-2 in the 86th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jeff Winterburn, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 96th minute Brendon Deveraux shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Freddy Dexter saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rory Black charged in rather forcefully in the 97th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Rory Black the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Yate AF booed when Ashburton was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 97 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rory Black didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ashburton were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Yate AF to leave the ground with a draw.
