Seating: 1690, VIP seats: 0) The mood of the audience was pleasant when Harvey Swinscoe made the kick off which started today's match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jasper Folwill in the 3rd minute of play forced Widnes's goalkeeper Grant Winstanley to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 8 minutes into the match, Widnes's goal looked a bit too open when Neil Cummings came free, but Grant Winstanley reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Sebastien Holdcroft's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Grant Winstanley was relentless in the 16th minute of the game. Grant Winstanley showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Neil Cummings, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. Caleb Middlewood made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Harvey Swinscoe in the 24th minute of play. Widnes's Grant Winstanley played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Neil Cummings in the 25th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Widnes's zone, Jasper Folwill stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Grant Winstanley came out of the goal and Jasper Folwill tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Neil Cummings received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Grant Winstanley tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sebastien Holdcroft recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 32nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Widnes's zone, Sebastien Holdcroft stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Grant Winstanley came out of the goal and Sebastien Holdcroft tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Neil Cummings in the 38th minute of play forced Widnes's goalkeeper Grant Winstanley to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Grant Winstanley showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jasper Folwill in the 41st minute of the match. With a little luck, The Gosses's Caleb Middlewood got control of the ball when Jools Dry tried to sneak it across the goal line. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.
After 51 played minutes Widnes got a freekick which was hit by Harvey Swinscoe. In the 53rd minute, The Gosses's Jasper Folwill ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Grant Winstanley. Grant Winstanley yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-1. If Neil Cummings had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The Gosses's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. With his leg Grant Winstanley managed to avoid a goal in the 74thth minute, when The Gosses's Neil Cummings fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 77 minutes into the match, The Gosses's goal looked a bit too open when Jools Dry came free, but Caleb Middlewood reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Widnes's zone, Brandon Hanley stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Grant Winstanley came out of the goal and Brandon Hanley tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Grant Winstanley took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jasper Folwill, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The Gosses's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
