Spectators: 6726 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1726, VIP seats: 0) Tosh Giugno made the kick off and thus started the match. Pat Kyle took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bill Mead, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 13th minute Bill Mead shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pat Kyle saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 15 minutes into the match, Gerrards Cross's goal looked a bit too open when Bill Mead came free, but Pat Kyle reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Tosh Giugno fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ronan Hornsby having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 25th minute, Bill Mead managed to get in a good position for a shot. Portsmouth's supporters rose to their feet, but Bill Mead was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Pat Kyle breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Pat Kyle showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jay Turk, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. Ronan Hornsby made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rowan Fayle in the 39th minute. Alastair Rockett blasted a shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ronan Hornsby having to make a save. The crowd rose to their feet as Gerrards Cross's Tosh Giugno slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Ronan Hornsby. That made the score 1-0 after 43 minutes of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jay Turk to make the kick off. Pat Kyle came out of the goal in the 51st minute to try and stop a shot by Portsmouth's Bill Mead. But to his dismay, Bill Mead quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. After a defensive mix-up in Portsmouth's zone, Tosh Giugno stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ronan Hornsby came out of the goal and Tosh Giugno tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 59th minute, Rowan Fayle hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 64 minutes, Jay Turk managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Portsmouth's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jay Turk was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Jay Turk had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Bill Mead sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 75 minutes into the match, Portsmouth's goal looked a bit too open when Alastair Rockett came free, but Ronan Hornsby reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jermaine Greenwood lost his temper 87 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. In the 89th minute there was a penalty for Gerrards Cross. Damion Robinson stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Ronan Hornsby. 2-1. When Alastair Rockett came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the Gerrards Cross fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alastair Rockett couldn't finish the play. Alastair Rockett fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ronan Hornsby having to interfere. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Gerrards Cross fans cheered their team off the field, for while Portsmouth had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
