With his leg Leigh Spurgeon managed to avoid a goal in the 20thth minute, when Openshaw FC's Darius Mead fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. But to his dismay, Ollie Brindley quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Liam Bennett in the 34th minute of play forced Openshaw FC's goalkeeper Johnny Copsey to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Darius Mead had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Whitechapel's Leigh Spurgeon proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 40th minute of the match, managed to save Whitechapel from getting a goal against them. Ollie Brindley kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match. 44 minutes into the game, Darius Mead lined in a short shot 1-1 behind a frustrated Leigh Spurgeon.

In the 56th minute, Giles Cavanagh hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 60 minutes into the match, Openshaw FC's Tod Norton sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Leigh Spurgeon narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Ritchie Bowler's late challenge caught a Openshaw FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ritchie Bowler helped the player get up and apologised. Leigh Spurgeon took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tod Norton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Silvester Christensen charged in rather forcefully in the 65th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. After a rather tough play, Whitechapel's Vincent Bayne got a free kick in the 86th minute. Leigh Spurgeon stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Benji Robson's shot from short distance in the 94th minute. In the 96th minute, Benji Robson ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Leigh Spurgeon was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. When the referee ended the match the Openshaw FC players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
