In the 8th minute, Ken Fountain got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After having played for 10 minutes, Alfie Hayes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Dagenham FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alfie Hayes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the match clock showed 11 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Ken Fountain sped through Westbury-sub-Mendip United's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Gwyn Mann. The crowd rose to their feet as Tommy Hedley kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Gwyn Mann. That made the score 2-0 in the 14 minute of play. Tommy Hedley struck a weak shot in the 17th minute. Gwyn Mann didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Dagenham FC. If Jermaine Wright had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ken Fountain who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 25thth minute tested the skills of Gwyn Mann when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Westbury-sub-Mendip United's zone, Alfie Hayes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gwyn Mann came out of the goal and Alfie Hayes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Tommy Hedley fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gwyn Mann having to interfere. Joe Colbert kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. Gwyn Mann made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ken Fountain in the 37th minute of play. 37 minutes into the match, Ken Fountain notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of Westbury-sub-Mendip United's Gwyn Mann. Gwyn Mann was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Hugh Moody's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gwyn Mann read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 40th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ken Fountain in the 41st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gwyn Mann saved Westbury-sub-Mendip United from getting behind. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ken Fountain was the one to do the kick off. Hugh Moody received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Gwyn Mann tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Ken Fountain managed to get in a good position for a shot. Dagenham FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Ken Fountain was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gwyn Mann breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 71 minutes of play, Dagenham FC's Hugh Moody made it 6-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gwyn Mann was left in no man's land by his defense there!
