Marek Ward showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Owen Housham in the 8th minute of the match. 10 minutes into the match, Aston Villa's goal looked a bit too open when Allan Atkins came free, but Marek Ward reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Owen Housham in the 13th minute of play forced Aston Villa's goalkeeper Marek Ward to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Owen Housham sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Allan Atkins in the 16th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Marek Ward prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After having played for 17 minutes, Owen Housham managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Maylandsea FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Owen Housham was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Owen Housham fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marek Ward having to interfere. Aston Villa's Marek Ward played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Allan Atkins in the 20th minute of play. Allan Atkins fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marek Ward having to interfere. Jonathon Bostock came free with the goalkeeper in the 30th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Stevie Sugden could save by the left post. After 30 played minutes Maylandsea FC got a freekick which was hit by Walter Kay. After a defensive mix-up in Maylandsea FC's zone, Noel Fenton stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Stevie Sugden came out of the goal and Noel Fenton tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Aston Villa getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Jonny Shepherd hit a great ball. Marek Ward made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Owen Housham in the 38th minute of play. Marek Ward took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Allan Atkins, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Allan Atkins's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Marek Ward was relentless in the 41st minute of the game. Jordan Thompson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Stevie Sugden tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Stevie Sugden showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Des Earnshaw, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. After a rather tough play, Maylandsea FC's Walter Kay got a free kick in the 46th minute.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Allan Atkins stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Owen Houshams short, quick shot in the 52ndth minute got Marek Ward to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 52 minutes into the game, Des Earnshaw was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Aston Villa's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Maylandsea FC the free kick. After 52 played minutes Aston Villa got a freekick which was hit by Des Earnshaw. With a little luck, Aston Villa's Marek Ward got control of the ball when Owen Housham tried to sneak it across the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Allan Atkins in the 56th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Marek Ward saved Aston Villa from getting behind. Owen Housham's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 60thth minute, Marek Ward skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 70th minute, Owen Housham managed to get in a good position for a shot. Maylandsea FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Owen Housham was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marek Ward breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Marek Ward made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Allan Atkins in the 76th minute of play. Owen Housham fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marek Ward having to interfere. After recieving a nice pass, Aston Villa's Noel Fenton tried to score from far away in the 83rd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Marek Ward was a little too slow when Allan Atkins got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 87th minute. The score was now 0-2. After a defensive mix-up in Aston Villa's zone, Allan Atkins stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marek Ward came out of the goal and Allan Atkins tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Aston Villa's Des Earnshaw got his second yellow card of the match in the 93rd minute. The referee ordered Des Earnshaw off the ground. Des Earnshaw hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. If Allan Atkins had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Maylandsea FC players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
