In the 8th match minute, Southwell FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tyrone Adamson to maneuver through the defense. Mike Rusby sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. John-Paul Cryan was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Tyrone Adamson showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 13 minute of play. John-Paul Cryan made an important save on a dangerous shot by Kelvin Fieldwick in the 17th minute. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Mick Hall stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Durham City AFC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tyrone Adamson was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. 79 minutes into the match, Durham City AFC's Wally Joynes sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Austen Rusk narrowly saved just below the crossbar. John-Paul Cryan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mick Hall, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 87 minutes into the match, Durham City AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Mick Hall came free, but John-Paul Cryan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rueben Warne kicked well hit freekick during the 87th minute of the match. Gregory Commons struck a weak shot in the 92nd minute. Austen Rusk didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Durham City AFC. The audience was convinced that Wally Joynes's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Austen Rusk was relentless in the 95th minute of the game.
