He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Basildon City reached it. After a defensive mix-up in Neasden City's zone, Nigel Clist stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alfred Dowrick came out of the goal and Nigel Clist tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Frazer Downs had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Nigel Clist to strike the kick off in the second half. Brian Wardle's late challenge caught a Neasden City's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Guy Crooks stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Frazer Downs's shot from short distance in the 91st minute. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
