Spectators: 6730 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1730, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Bruce Haskell took the kick off in the first half of the match. John-Paul Hamer received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Les Hughes-Guy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 6th minute Tod Evans shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Les Hughes-Guy saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Bruce Haskell came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the Meols AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bruce Haskell couldn't finish the play. Bruce Haskell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Harvey Lowndes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 14 minutes, John-Paul Hamer put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Les Hughes-Guy. With a little luck, Blackfen's Harvey Lowndes got control of the ball when Geoff Carragher tried to sneak it across the goal line. The supporters of Meols AFC booed when Blackfen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ryan Hodgson didn't get a good kick on the ball. John-Paul Hamer might have been able to make a better finish in the 28th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Les Hughes-Guy. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. John-Paul Hamer ran back to his position shaking his head. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling John-Paul Hamer in the 30th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Les Hughes-Guy prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Les Hughes-Guy made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from John-Paul Hamer in the 34th minute of play. In the 36th minute, John-Paul Hamer got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The supporters of Blackfen booed when Meols AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marc Denham didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Geoff Carragher had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Geoff Carragher fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Harvey Lowndes having to interfere. Geoff Carragher sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tod Evans was the one to do the kick off. John-Paul Hamer sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 57th minute, John-Paul Hamer made a precise shot to the right of Les Hughes-Guy. Meols AFC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. Harvey Lowndes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bruce Haskell, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 63 minutes into the match, Blackfen's Tod Evans sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Les Hughes-Guy narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Geoff Carragher's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Harvey Lowndes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 68th minute of play. Geoff Carragher sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Harvey Lowndes stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Bruce Haskell's shot from short distance in the 74th minute. Meols AFC's Les Hughes-Guy played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tod Evans in the 77th minute of play. Geoff Carragher recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 80th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 83rd minute Bruce Haskell shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Harvey Lowndes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Bruce Haskell sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to Blackfen getting a freekick after 85 minutes play. Freddy Fish hit a great ball. After 93 played minutes Blackfen got a freekick which was hit by Freddy Fish. In the 94th minute of the match Marc Denham shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Harvey Lowndes showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Blackfen's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
