The supporters of Baston booed when Keyworth was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Roy Kent didn't get a good kick on the ball. Silvester Nightingale hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. Jim Lennon sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 46 minutes into the match, Baston's goal looked a bit too open when Duncan Bannister came free, but Lance Strickland reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Silvester Nightingale was the one to do the kick off. 56 minutes had been played when some careless play by Keyworth's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Andre Bettinson was slow to take the kick. During this time Baston's players had a chance to rest. In the 64th minute, Barrie Boxall left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Baston fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. When the match had gone on for 67 minutes, Jim Lennon put it in 1-3 from a short distance just to the right of Lance Strickland. If Duncan Bannister had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lance Strickland made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jim Lennon in the 75th minute. Jeremy Radcliffe hit a great freekick 77 minutes into the match. After 85 played minutes Baston got a freekick which was hit by Barrie Boxall. In the 86th minute of the match Felix Barnfield shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Lance Strickland showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. 96 minutes into the match, Baston's goal looked a bit too open when Christian Gould came free, but Lance Strickland reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
