Seating: 1690, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Dylon Short took the kick off in the first half of the match. After a rather tough play, Newbold Verdon's Casey Boulton got a free kick in the 3rd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 4th minute, Dylon Short managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gerrards Cross AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Dylon Short was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lewis Apsden breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 7 minutes into the match, Gerrards Cross AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Sly Bannister came free, but Doug Miller reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sly Bannister sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 13 minutes into the match, Christian Bates had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Doug Miller. Gerrards Cross AFC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Christian Bates was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. When Alfie Graydon came up free with the goalie in the 16th minute, the Gerrards Cross AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alfie Graydon couldn't finish the play. In the 21st minute Newbold Verdon were awarded a corner. Rob Carlisle went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Newbold Verdon's corner Rob Carlisle fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Doug Miller quite easily take care of the ball. After 22 minutes, Tris Carragher mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Newbold Verdon and the Gerrards Cross AFC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 23 played minutes Newbold Verdon got a freekick which was hit by Tris Carragher. 24 minutes into the match, Alfie Graydon notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Newbold Verdon's Lewis Apsden. Lewis Apsden was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 29th minute, Matt Chalk hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lewis Apsden came out of the goal in the 32nd minute to try and stop a shot by Gerrards Cross AFC's Dylon Short. But to his dismay, Dylon Short quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dylon Short in the 36th minute of play forced Newbold Verdon's goalkeeper Lewis Apsden to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lewis Apsden showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dylon Short in the 41st minute of the match. Sly Bannister recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Sly Bannister had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
After having played for 54 minutes, Alfie Graydon managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gerrards Cross AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alfie Graydon was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Lewis Apsden made an important save on a dangerous shot by Alfie Graydon in the 56th minute. Dylon Short sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Dylon Short recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 64th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Christian Bates came up free with the goalie in the 77th minute, the Newbold Verdon fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Christian Bates couldn't finish the play. Doug Miller made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sly Bannister in the 78th minute of play. The supporters of Newbold Verdon booed when Gerrards Cross AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Frank Frain didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Sly Bannister came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the Newbold Verdon fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sly Bannister couldn't finish the play. In the 83rd minute Sly Bannister shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Doug Miller saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 84 minutes, Christian Bates managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Newbold Verdon's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Gerrards Cross AFC the free kick. CJ Earnshaw hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. Dylon Short sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Newbold Verdon's Ricky Newland got a free kick in the 94th minute. Dylon Short struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. Lewis Apsden didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gerrards Cross AFC. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Gerrards Cross AFC eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
