Kesgrave's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Chilcompton the free kick. After a rather tough play, Kesgrave's Patrick Edwards got a free kick in the 6th minute. When Gerry Sawbridge fell near the penalty area in the 18th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Chilcompton's protests and gave Gerry Sawbridge a yellow card for diving instead. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 18th minute of the game. One of Chilcompton:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Kesgrave:s goal. Bradley Burbeary walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Charles Sykes in the 30th minute of play forced Chilcompton's goalkeeper Mike Deveraux to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Kesgrave booed when Chilcompton was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ty Letheren didn't get a good kick on the ball. 41 minutes into the match, Seb Woodhead notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Kesgrave's Vance Buchanan. Vance Buchanan was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Seb Woodhead stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Chilcompton's Mike Deveraux played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Grant Aldridge in the 52nd minute of play. When Seb Woodhead came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Chilcompton fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Seb Woodhead couldn't finish the play. Mike Deveraux made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Grant Aldridge in the 58th minute of play. If Charles Sykes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Kesgrave's Grant Aldridge got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to Chilcompton getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Ty Letheren hit a great ball. 65 minutes into the match, Chilcompton's goal looked a bit too open when Grant Aldridge came free, but Mike Deveraux reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Chilcompton booed when Kesgrave was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Chris McBreen didn't get a good kick on the ball. Grant Aldridge's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Mike Deveraux read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 89th minute of play. Grant Aldridge sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 95th minute Grant Aldridge shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mike Deveraux saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
