A collision led to Whitwell getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Blair Cutts hit a great ball. Blair Cutts received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Geoff Hird tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Neil Ferrell got free with Dave Sewell in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Twickenham City's Geoff Hird played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Blair Cutts in the 35th minute of play. In the 38th minute the ball was on its way in behind Twickenham City's goalkeeper Geoff Hird, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Neil Ferrell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After a defensive mix-up in Twickenham City's zone, Blair Cutts stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Geoff Hird came out of the goal and Blair Cutts tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Blair Cutts to strike the kick off in the second half. With his leg Geoff Hird managed to avoid a goal in the 57thth minute, when Whitwell's Dave Edmonton fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 59th minute, Zaq Hedges hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dave Sewell took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Neil Ferrell, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Blair Cutts had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Whitwell getting a freekick after 69 minutes play. Tod Middlewood hit a great ball. 71 minutes into the match, Whitwell's goal looked a bit too open when Neil Ferrell came free, but Dave Sewell reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Cliff Freeman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dave Sewell didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Cliff Freeman went, in the 78th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. In the 83rd minute Blair Cutts shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Geoff Hird saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Twickenham City's Geoff Hird got control of the ball when Dave Edmonton tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 93 minutes, Ross Ashton mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Twickenham City and the Whitwell players grew even worse after the yellow card. Whitwell's Blair Cutts was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 98th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal.
