Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Buxton FC's Richard Digby started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Dave Ainsworth who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 4thth minute tested the skills of Luke Lane when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Graham Brown took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Denny Cummings, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rainhill's Beinn Lamb got a good chance for a goal in the 7th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a little luck, Rainhill's Luke Lane got control of the ball when Dave Ainsworth tried to sneak it across the goal line. 15 minutes into the match, Buxton FC's goal looked a bit too open when Denny Cummings came free, but Graham Brown reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Luke Lane was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Richard Digby showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 20 minute of play. Graham Brown made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Beinn Lamb in the 25th minute of play. Graham Brown took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Denny Cummings, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Doug Bridgeman kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 36th minute, Dave Ainsworth managed to get in a good position for a shot. Buxton FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Dave Ainsworth was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Luke Lane breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 37 played minutes Rainhill got a freekick which was hit by Alan Reading. Luke Lane made a fantastic save in the 39th minute, when Dave Ainsworth sent off a good shot on target. After a rather tough play, Buxton FC's Edward Cook got a free kick in the 40th minute. After having played for 48 minutes, Edward Cook managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Buxton FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Edward Cook was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.

When Beinn Lamb came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Rainhill fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Beinn Lamb couldn't finish the play. Camron Gough hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. The supporters of Rainhill booed when Buxton FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edward Cook didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 61 minutes, Denny Cummings managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Rainhill's supporters crossed their fingers, but Denny Cummings was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Graham Brown came out of the goal in the 62nd minute to try and stop a shot by Rainhill's Beinn Lamb. But to his dismay, Beinn Lamb quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Richard Digby received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Luke Lane tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 73 minutes into the match, Rainhill's goal looked a bit too open when Dave Ainsworth came free, but Luke Lane reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Richard Digby had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dave Ainsworth fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luke Lane having to interfere. In the 87th minute, Richard Digby hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Graham Brown made a fantastic save in the 89th minute, when Beinn Lamb sent off a good shot on target. When Edward Cook fell near the penalty area in the 90th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Buxton FC's protests and gave Edward Cook a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Buxton FC's Edward Cook got a free kick in the 90th minute. In the 94th minute Doug Bridgeman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luke Lane saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Beinn Lamb fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Graham Brown having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Tristram Swallow during the 96th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Tristram Swallow hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
