Seating: 1726, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Gary Hales took the kick off in the first half of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 4th minute, Tris Buxton managed to get in a good position for a shot. Wigston's supporters rose to their feet, but Tris Buxton was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Micheal Osbourne breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 8th minute Gary Hales shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wes Earnshaw saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Micheal Osbourne didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 10th minute, which inside left pole to 1-0. When Calum Sheringham fell near the penalty area in the 21st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Wigston's protests and gave Calum Sheringham a yellow card for diving instead. After 21 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Wigston! After some fancy dribbling in the 24th minute, Darius Boothroyd managed to get in a good position for a shot. Eye's supporters rose to their feet, but Darius Boothroyd was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wes Earnshaw breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of Eye booed when Wigston was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Stevie Buxton didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Gary Hales had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Wigston's Tris Buxton got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 45 played minutes Eye got a freekick which was hit by Mick Albright. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tris Buxton was the one to do the kick off. Darius Boothroyd fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wes Earnshaw having to interfere. Felix Mimms sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Wigston's Charles Moxey got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Darius Boothroyd sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 70 minutes, Tris Buxton managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Wigston's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tris Buxton was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience was convinced that Tris Buxton's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Micheal Osbourne was relentless in the 73rd minute of the game. Charles Moxey sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Wes Earnshaw made a fantastic save in the 79th minute, when Darius Boothroyd sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gary Hales in the 80th minute of play forced Wigston's goalkeeper Wes Earnshaw to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Darius Boothroyd came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the Eye fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Darius Boothroyd couldn't finish the play. Wigston's defense didn't have a chance, in the 83rd minute, when Gary Hales scored to the left of an out of position Wes Earnshaw, making the score, 1-1. Tris Buxton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Neither set of supporters seemed pleased with the draw, but both teams had played equally well today.
